Hippophae rhamnoides
Sea Buckthorn
Deciduous shrub or small tree with spine-covered branches and willow-like narrow leaves and small yellow flowers in the spring, followed by orange edible berries in autumn.  The berries are bitter and are not eaten by birds, but are used as a rich source of vitamin A and C.  They are also used to make jellies and jams, and sauces.  Native of Eurasia.  They thrive in ordinary garden soil and are quite hardy.  Full sun; plant height: 30ft.
