Dead Man's Fingers (Blue Bean Tree,
Sausage Tree) An odd-looking deciduous tree, native to the Himalayas, having bright green pinnate leaves and producing long blue edible seed pods resembling crooked fingers. The beans are eaten raw and have a rather sweet flavor. They can also be dried and used like nut meats. The tree is very tolerant and will grow in a variety of soil types as long as they are well-drained, but needs to be protected from cold winter winds. Hardy to -10F (-23.3C); height: 15ft. #A1869 Packet $16.00, Approximately 100 seeds |
