Tree Tomato (Tamarillo) Evergreen tree native to Brazil, bearing fragrant blooms that produce edible fruits, very similar in appearance to a 2 inch long paste tomato. Rich in vitamins A, E and C, the fruits have a unique, tart acidic taste and are often used to make jelly, jam, and preserves. The plants prefer a well-drained sandy loam in full sun, but dislike heavy winds. The root system is rather shallow and care should be taken when cultivating. They are fast growing and will fruit within 2 years from seed, but are short-lived (8years maximum for commercial production). The plants succeed when planted in pots for cooler climates. Hardy to 30F (-6.6C); height: 10ft. #A3950 Packet $27.00, Approximately 100 seeds |
