caragana arborescens siberian pea shrub seed #A1698
Caragana arborescens

Siberian Pea Shrub
Easy to grow deciduous shrub that tolerates a wide array of soil types (though it does best in light sandy soils, it tolerates extremely alkaline and unfertile soil).  It prefers a climate with cold winters and hot, dry summers.  In addition to the pretty yellow spring blooms, it also provides edible seeds, which can be eaten like lentils or dry beans and contain 36% protein.  The shrubs are sometimes grown as hedges or as erosion protection.  Hardy to -50F (-45C); height: 10ft.
