Trumpet
Creeper - Campsis radicans (aka Tecoma radicans) Members of the family Bignoniaceae, Campsis is a woody twing vine. The plants thrive in ordinary soil and grow rapidly, quickly covering a trellis. The leaves are pinnate and in late summer the vine bears terminal clusters of bright orange funnel shaped blooms that attract hummingbirds and butterflies. The blooms mature into papery seed pods about 5-6 inches in length containing dark brown seeds. The pods are often dried and used in arrangements or in crafts. Fast growing, these vines require heavy pruning to keep them in shape and to encourage flowering. Propagation is easily performed by either sowing seed, by taking cuttings of softwood in the spring or autumn, or by rooting suckers or root cuttings. Seed should be cold stratified for 90 days prior to sowing for best germination. The vines thrive in a wide variety of lights and soils from dappled shade at the edge of a wooded area in (US) Tennessee to house plantings in Texas. Medicinally, the roots have been used to promote sweating and to heal wounds. Hardy to -30F (-34.4C) #A1696 Packet of Seeds Approximately 100 seeds $22.00 |
